Abstract

Knowing when to expand your stadium, and by how much, can be pot luck for new Battrick players. This guide is written to help those players, and can be referred to by anyone, including more experienced users on the BT sledging boards. This version was last updated on 2007-11-05.

What are the agreed ratios?

Users with over-sized stadiums found that of all the attendees to a home match went to different sections in a set ratio:

Consequently it’s best to have your stadium in this ratio as well, to make the most money, and avoid paying wasteful maintenance.

Are there any variations to these ratios?

The agreed ratios are not exact. They used to be, but variations due to weather, type of game, and perhaps even a slight random variation means that the strict 45%/40%/11%/4% split is no more. However, the variations are actually quite subtle meaning that the agreed ratio is still the best numbers to work with.

When should I expand my stadium?

In short, near the start of a season that you think you will do well in. There are a few factors affecting the ideal timing of the expansion.

Members’ Confidence

This is one of the crucial factors. If you think you’ll be winning the majority of your games this season, then the Members’ Confidence will rise. This then increases the number of club members you have, and in turn, the number of attendees you get. This will then help to fill your expanded stadium.

If you think you’ll be losing most of the games, then the opposite is true, and it may not be worth upgrading just yet, even if you are just 'maxing' out some sections of your stadium at the moment.

Members’ Confidence is reset at the start of each season, so it’s not a good idea to do the expansion at the very start. Wait 2/3 weeks to make sure you are winning games, and for the confidence to rise, then make the expansion.

Home Games

You wouldn’t want to build some nice new seats, if you then didn’t have any home games for people to come and fill it! Most expansions are done just before a run of two or three home games, timed to finish just before the first game, so that recovering some of the cost of the expansion is immediate.

How much should I increase my stadium by?

Club Members

To be completed.

So I shouldn’t have the same number of Members seats as I have Club Members?

No, the Club Members you have does not match up to the number of Members seats you need. As explained, there is a tenuous link, but it works out you only have on average about 60% as much (Club Members x 15, then find 4% of that answer). Don’t just jump straight to this answer though - consider the other factors as well!

Win / Lose Expectation

To be completed.

Finances

I have a new stadium - should I expand it to the correct ratios, or just halfway there?

To be completed.

What is the Stadium-Helper?

The Stadium-Helper is a tool on this website, which can help you decide what expansion you should do.
